Individual braids: I first scour the city to find someone I didn't know but halfway trusted to install the braids AND not have to worry about them running a lighter up and down the braid. Then I stress over the amount of money and time I'm about to give up for it swearing "these are going to stay up for months!"..... Only to take them down in 6wks. WOMP.

I was growing tired of the hassle that came with the protective styles I was used to wearing:

Protective style for a while........
I had been going back and forth with myself about what type of protective style I should get for the summer and I finally narrowed it down to either box braids or senegalese twists. I wanted some thing that would last me 6 wks or more since I don't plan to relax until maybe a week before the wedding........So:

Don't laugh at my chubby looking face..... this was a bad angle! |
I went ahead and got some senegalese twists!!! I thought about box braids but, I had those last summer and I wanted to "switch it up" this time.... Keeping them up for as long as possible *crosses fingers that none of them decide to loosen up soon* I just have to control the urge to want to take my hair down in a few weeks lol
I'll also be switching up my washing routine as well from once a week to every 2wks just to make sure the twist don't get loose from too often manipulation involved in washing. My scalp will NOT appreciate this but for the sake of preserving a hair style I think it's necessary........
Wish me luck!

My hair, currently.
Remember when I talked about getting a bob? I went ahead and took the plunge and got it installed last weekend. At first I didn't like the length or the amount of hair left out to blend, but with all new things I try I had to let it grow on me. Now I love my hair! Best thing is everyone around me love my hair too (thought it was real!) which puts more confidence in my hair style.....Lewis didn't even recognize me at first glance ::role play anyone?::
I plan to leave the hair in for about 5-6wks. Hopefully it lasts that long without much problem. Now to get my sew-in regimen together! If anybody has in tips on how to take care of your hair while wearing a sew-in PLEASE don't hesitate to comment! Thanks!

It's time
I'm 5wks post currently and I definitely feel like it's time to go ahead and put my hair away for a while. I thought I could just grin and bare the texture differences and not being able to straighten my hair out as often as I like but this is starting to give me image issues lol. It doesn't help that I noticed right off the bat with my very first wash after relaxing that my under processed hair is still lingering about..... I am in desperate need of a corrective relaxer at this point! I do want to wait until my stretch is over to deal with any type of relaxing so until then I need to put my hair out of sight, and almost out of mind.
I've been heavily considering getting a bob, a layered bob to be more specific. They have always been one of the cutest styles to do (to me) when you want to spice you hair up. Only thing is, I don't plan on cutting my hair to achieve the 'do.... I decided I want to get a sew in. What more versatile way to try a shorter hair style than get it sewn in? I've been doing my research on sew ins lately cause this will be my first one and I want to make sure I'm using the right type of hair for what I want to do. With the right quality. At the right price. I've actually already called and talked to someone about doing my hair, I just need buy the hair and set up an appointment to get it done! I'm super excited about trying this style out..... Wonder how it will look on my face????
Here are some styles I've been browsing from the Google search engine:
The last one is my favorite!

Let me show you what I've been up to
I am a member over at the hair site KISS and I recently signed up for the KISS boot camp challenge for 2o13 (here is the link) in which the main rules are that you can not use direct heat and you wear your hair in protective styles. Seeing as my roots have been severely unruly lately, I entertained the idea of making a wig cap to wear.....This was my very first time attempting the task so you can believe this was a very interesting experience LOL. I wanted curly hair so I found some curly tracks I had bought for a sew in a long time ago in my closet, and then went and bought another pack to make the wig full.
Because this was my first time, I watched maybe a dozen videos about what to use and how to lay the tracks. One video suggested that if you use track glue (which I did) that you should place a shower cap under the wig cap so that it doesn't stick to your hair or the mannequin head, so I went that route.
I ended up laying the tracks in a U-shape starting from the bottom of the cap all the way up to the crown then I laid them straight across for the remainder of the cap until.... I ran out of hair. I proceeded to let the tracks dry overnight before I put it on my head. Well the next day I tried to put the cap on and it wouldn't fit. AT ALL. I didn't know what I did wrong until I realized that I had placed it on the mannequin head and it fit-perfectly. The wig molded to that head and dried and was now too small to fit on head with my hair under it! I was beginning to get frustrated so for 2 days I didn't touch it, and then I braided my hair back into two braids and tried it again.... it ended up looking like this:
I don't like to give up on things but this wig has given me the blues too much too soon, it is safe to say that this was a FAIL for me. I'm not going to throw it away though, probably need to just look at with fresh eyes........ like maybe a month from now lol until then I will just place it in the closet out of sight. I had high hopes for it too.... maybe too high for a novice ;)
Welp, that was my first wig experience! Hope you enjoyed the walk-thru process, if you have ANY tips on how to make this wig better or tips for a future wig please do not hesitate to comment or even shoot me an email to mrsbeeimmee@ymail.com.
Until next time!

::Can you tell where I ran out of hair? lol::
It was still too small, but I was determined to where it some-damn-where so I simply covered the front with a headband
Voila! It seemed to work that day, but when I wore it to work a day or so later the cap kept riding up and threatening to fall off; even with bobby pins securing it down :( I thought that I could cut the little section that didn't have hair on it and just do a quick straw set on the front section of my hair, but after I cut the dern thing it definitely wouldn't stay on my head anymore:
