Nobody told me!!

Not one person who owns a home told me that it would be sooo overwhelming to decorate a house!! We've been in the house going on two weeks now and everyday I get up and say "alright, today I'm going to do this this and this" and by 4pm I've only just started on those things! Usually it's because some time during the day I've walked past a room and spotted something else that I needed to do and ended up fiddling with that for a while..... or starting and stopping a project constantly for lack of design vision/decisiveness/frustration...... SIGH .

I want to enjoy creating character in our home, but I am finding it to be a bit stressful. For one there is like a 500% increase in rooms and space from the 1 bedroom we lived in for 2 years..... And for two I have like 8 different design ideas running through my head simultaneously as I walk through my house with not the slightest clue on where to start. I did get some good advice yesterday I that plan to follow though; I was at church confiding in one of the members how overwhelmed I felt trying to decorate you would never guess what she said?

"Focus on one room at a time."
That simple.

And like magic, it made sense lol. She told me that if I kept trying to do every room at once I would never see any of my progress and I would probably go crazy and broke trying to complete the daunting task. "Save money up and complete one room at a time, you will enjoy it more." Thank you for easing my mind!

So that's what I plan to do! Wonder which room I'll do first? Stay tuned to find out.......... :)

Series: Updating my life

There comes a time in every woman's life when they evaluate and strategize (if necessary) about if and how they need to make changes to themselves.....

Getting married has brought something to my attention: I need an update.

*I sort of talked about it in this post*

Since I have identified and am now fully aware of my need, it's time to figure out what exactly needs to change and where I should start...... Simple right? You'd be surprised how complicated I tend to make things :)

These are the things I feel as though need some updating:

  • Wardrobe/accessories/shoes
  • Home decor
  • Hair
My wardrobe issue is actually an ongoing thing, since the beginning of the year I've been trying to get that together..... and failed miserably. Plus in the past 6 months I've given away alot of my clothes so it causes me to look like a rerun more often than not...... BUT! It doesn't stop me from trying again.... and again..... and again lol My main issue is that whenever I go into a store I don't see anything I like or I feel like whatever I do see that has potential, there are like 3 other girls right behind me picking up the same item and they are about 5 or 6 years younger! Does this mean I still have high school style? Or am I shopping in the wrong department?

Our apt decor could definitely use an update mainly because, well we don't actually have any. What I mean is there isn't much...... flow. Sure there are a few decorations but nothing really goes together, on purpose? I struggle with this because our space is not massive so if there is too much going on, it makes the place look junky and I hate that! So really the deal is to find ways to decorate while keeping the space as open and de-cluttered as possible. There's a challenge......

My hair. Nothing is wrong with my hair, it's growing fine and recovering rather nicely thank you ! It's just....  boring. I think that's my real problem; I am bored with my hair. No, I don't want to cut it and although I've been thinking of color I don't plan to do anything permanent at the moment. My hairstyles are what have me in a funk about my entire head. I'm always putting my hair up in some type of bun or clip, I can't ever find anything cute to do with it! Then I can never think of anything cute and quick to do if hubby and I want to go out to eat or decide to do something spontaneous. It's frustrating. Maybe I should start back going to the salon on a more regular basis..... I don't know yet though.

I'm sure there are other areas in my little life that need some updating but right now I feel as though these need the most attention so I'll focus here first. Really excited about rerouting my energy towards things that will help in my quest of channeling the wife inside of me.... Cause right now I still don't feel like one.

Is that normal? Let's not even think about what's normal and what isn't lol..... I will try to update on this topic at least once a week so be on the look out for it:)

I'm ready to update my life.... are you? You should join me! I would love to have some buddies in this journey; you don't have to do the same ones as me, you could update any area of your life whether it be work, school, or personal-related.... we can all use some updating! Leave a comment, link up to this page or do both!!

To my dearest neighbor

Dear Person who lives with my neighbor upstairs,

Are you aware of the patio just right outside of that front window? You know the one with the sliding glass door, that gives you access to the OUTSIDE of the apt? Oh I'm sure you are cause I've seen you sitting out there on a few occasions. Since we know you are oriented to the area, can you please take you and that damn cigarette that you seem to want to light up every morning IN THE BATHROOM outside? I mean, really! What is truly the point of smoking in the bathroom when you have access to a porch and a patio? Do you like to bask in the second-hand smoke? Are you trying to hide it from my neighbor by doing it in there, cause if you are that's stupid! He'll still be able to smell it. Dumb ass Smart guy SMH. Now I'm not one to try and tell anyone what to do but the smoke you put out in your bathroom travels down into our bathroom and its awful. Now when you can't even properly brush your teeth in the morning or breath regularly while doing your business for that matter- there's a definite issue. I don't want to have to get all "bitchy neighbor" on you but you pushin' it! Just be courteous and take that ish outside please, thank you :)

Signed with attitude,
Your downstairs neighbor who would rather die from natural causes or a freak accident NOT second-hand carcinogens

I wonder if I should print this and place it on their door? LOL

Out with the old....

Me and the Hubby-to-be have been recently chatting up new furniture. We currently are sitting on the bachelorette/college furniture that I owned before we met and I'll be honest....... it's not very company/entertainment friendly. It's basically a little couch that lets out into a futon and a side little butterfly chair. So if more than 2 people decide they want to come over and hang out, there won't be any where for anybody to sit! O.o Uhm yea, It's definitely time to UPGRADE to some more grown up furniture pieces. Lol.

Did a little internet shopping and we came across a style like this:

It also comes with a love seat. I think it will be just what me need as OUR first living room set. They have these at rent-a-center. Now I'm not a rent-to-own person, actually I hate the idea of knowing that we would end up paying way over the original price by making weekly payments. But they have a "90 day same as cash" option that we can do and it doesn't cost any extra money. And that makes me excited!

Now All I gotta do is get rid of the old and make room for the new stuff. I decided to put the couch for sell over on craigslist this morning and I've already gotten a few offers! Wow, that makes it so much more real for me.... I think I'm going to miss my old couch :(

Cue Hi-C's "Graduation" hit......
